Dan
is one of the founders and serves as managing partner of NeuroVentures, a
specialty venture firm, established in 2001 to invest in emerging
biopharmaceutical and medical technology companies
developing better treatments for Central Nervous System diseases.
Dan
represents NeuroVentures on the boards of Setagon Inc. and Acumen
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In
addition, he serves as a board observer at BrainCells Inc., Concentric Medical Inc.,
and previously Cyberkinetics
Neurotechnology Systems Inc.
Dan’s experience with neuro-related technology companies includes
co-founding MedSpecialists, Inc., a venture-backed clinical applications
provider acquired by ProVation
Medical Inc., and Surgical Solutions, LLC, a company which developed
and marketed neurosurgical products licensed from leading research
institutions. Dan is a
member of the Business Advisory Boards of the Epilepsy Therapy Development Project
and the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery
Foundation. He serves on the Board of the Neurotechnology Industry
Organization.
Prior to attending
business school, Dan worked in investment banking at Advest, Inc. He holds a B.A. from Brown
University and M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.

Mark A. Cochran, Ph.D., Founding Partner
Mark served as Managing Director of NeuroVentures from its inception in
late 2000 through April 2006. He remains active with several NeuroVentures
portfolio companies and continues to serve as an advisor to the firm.
Currently, he is Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurological Research
Institute (BRNI) in Morgantown, WV. BRNI is a non-profit research
institute dedicated to the study of human memory. Its primary mission is
to accelerate neurological discoveries from the lab, including diagnostic
tools and treatments, directly to patients who are suffering from
neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's.
Previously,
Dr. Cochran worked with MDS Capital Corporation, a Toronto-based
healthcare venture capital group where he was responsible for MDS' San
Francisco venture business and several MDS invested companies. His prior
experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry includes
Bayer Pharmaceuticals, most recently as vice president of business
development, biotechnology, in Berkeley, California. Other positions held
during his tenure at Bayer included project director of Recombinant
Factor VIII, and head of molecular biology and biochemistry in Wuppertal,
Germany. Before joining Bayer, Dr. Cochran co-founded MicroGeneSys, Inc.,
a Connecticut-based vaccine company. He is listed as the author on 22 scientific
papers, 66 abstracts and six patents.
Dr. Cochran received
his Ph.D. from the Department of Molecular Biology and Immunology at
Queen's University in Kingston,
Canada. He
holds a Masters from the University
of Guelph and a B.Sc. from the University
of Toronto. Dr.
Cochran performed post-doctoral research at the National Institutes of
Health in Bethesda, MD.

The Investment
